Daily Mirror: 50,000 families hit by floods in East
Posted: December 16, 2009At least two people were killed and more than 50,000 families affected due to the floods in the Eastern Province resulting from heavy rains that lashed the area in the past two days, the National Disaster Management Centre said yesterday.
It was reported that more than 17 divisional secretariat areas were affected by the floods in the Batticaloa district alone. One person was killed by lightning in the Ampara District while two were injured. A 22 year old woman was killed when a wall collapsed. Full Story
